RECENT PROJECT PORTFOLIO

Our installations vary from television studios, outside broadcast vehicles, edit suites and video conferencing to theme areas such as Planet Hollywood (London) and Disneyland (Paris).

The following are some of the major projects we have designed, managed and installed directly or as a sub-contractor:

Sony award ABE with London News Network Project:

Sony Broadcast & Professional awarded ABE with the LNN integration of a large 128 square matrix and the refurbishment of five of their linear edit suites.

The tape format of the suites was changed to Beta SX. Each suite had the equipment removed so that the room could be redecorated and re-carpeted prior to the new console being installed. Each suite was out of action for only ten days including one day for testing and commissioning.

The existing matrices were replaced by a 128x128 SDI with 4 analogue audio channel matrices. This change over required extremely careful planning as the station is a 24hr operation.

The picture below right shows the Edit One Suite with completed console.

ABE design & integrate Citigate Broadcast's London Wall Studios facility:

Sony awarded the system design and integration contract for Citigate Broadcast to ABE. The facilities include a three camera studio, gallery, central apparatus room and non-linear edit suite plus an encoding area.

Citigate Broadcast provides a fully integrated Production, Broadcast and Media Relations facility for its clients. Based in the City's Square Mile, its London Wall Studios is the only independent studio in the area providing instant access to the global broadcast network."

The studio was designed to accommodate 3 Sony DXC-D35 cameras (studio configuration) with 5" viewfinders, CCU's, fitted with Canon 12-1HA zoom lenses.

The gallery is equipped with a Prospect talkback system with station syncs from a Courtyard SPG. The vision switcher & effects are provided by a Sony DFS-700P, with a Soundcraft B100 12 channel mixer looking after the audio.

The facility can handle all formats including Digital Betacam, SP Betacam and VHS with live presentation to network and receive outside sources.

Routing is achieved with a Sony 16 x 16 SDI router, with control panels in the gallery and in the CAR. The studio floor area is approx 6m sq with a ceiling height 5m and is installed with the latest Chromate Cyc cloth along 3 of the studio walls.

A racing certainty with Sony Broadcast & Professional:

Sony Broadcast & Professional awarded the design and integration contract for the new stand at Newbury Racecourse to ABE. This comprises a conference and presentation facility in the restaurant on the top floor, with a distribution system to both other floors.

Eight Plasma screens display feeds from SIS, Racetech, or Outside Broadcast trucks, also any information generated by the conference system. This can also be projected via a Sony LCD Projector for large audience viewing

Russia & Middle East:

ABE have recently designed and installed conferencing, display and central distribution systems in Russia and the Middle East.

Europe .. Video Conferencing:

ABE have just integrated two high level video conference systems in Brussels.

UK .. Webstreaming:

ABE were awarded the contract to design and install a web streaming facility incorporating probably one of the largest matrices in the UK

UK .. Conference Rooms:

For many years ABE have been designing and integrating an ongoing series of high end conferencing rooms for the government. This consists of large table video conferencing facilities providing the operator with touch screen mimic control displays with automatic audio enhancement. Each room has a number of pan & tilt cameras covering the conference table.

UK .. Satellite Channel:

A satellite station was the challenge put to ABE recently. The station was owned by a major finance/news operation requiring a 24hr operation to transmit financial and general news via satellite around the world. The concept was to have journalists presenting to camera at their desks then editing prior to transmission.

ABE at the 1999 Cricket World Cup:

The need for closer scrutiny for decision making in cricket gave ABE (UK) the opportunity to design and install the third umpire system at Lords Cricket Ground in 1998.

With England hosting the 1999 Cricket World Cup, ABE (UK) were commissioned to design and install a similar system into 5 vehicles to be used at all venues during the tournament. This encompassed 42 matches at 21 venues across the UK, Dublin and Amsterdam.

The system needed to be flexible (as no two grounds were the same) and easy to install. We had to allow for cable runs to the cameras that could be up to 500 metres distant. In addition, camera mountings could be on roofs, scaffolding or even ground seating.

All this was accomplished with flying colours.
